What is information safety management system according to ISO 27001?

Information safety management system (ISMS) is intended for safety of information and thus for management of risks that these information might potentially threaten. Standard ISO 27001 provides a model for implementation of effective information safety management system (ISMS) within an organization and so it amends ISO 17799 standard. Both standards are very closely interconnected, however, each performs different task. Standard ISO 17799 provides a detailed summary (catalogue) of safety measures that might be selected in the course of ISMS implementation, standard ISO 27001 specifies requirements regarding proper implementation of ISMS within an organization. Contingent certification of ISMS then follows standard ISO 27001.
